This makes sense from a social and moral point of view. And, it makes macro economic sense. It matches with evidence that we actually don’t do enough tech and startup investment, and returns may be unbounded. However, it doesn’t make micro-economic sense for individual entrepreneurs and investors, because in this world, the returns to some investments are huge, but the likelihood of success for any individual effort is very small. What’s the portfolio strategy that makes this work for individuals putting their lives into very high risk, very high reward projects?
